Discussion of Location
The tzompantli altar currently resides in situ, meaning that it still resides in its location and was built there over 500 years ago. After the main temple had already been thoroughly discovered, archeologists wanted to examine the structures surrounding the main temple. On the North Plaza, there were 3 structures of note, the middle of which being the tzompantli. This is just south of the Justo Sierra and slightly north of the Templo Mayor. One of the structures to the side of the tzompantli has a corresponding structure on the south side of the Templo Mayor, referred to as the Red Temple. Of the other monuments in this project it is most closely located to the Tlaltecuhtli Plaque.
